Silver Wings Fraternity is an organization of men and women
pilots who live worldwide. We were incorporated in the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania in 1958 with the following purposes central to this
organization:
- To unite pilots who soloed powered aircraft at least 25 years
ago
- To renew and affirm friendships and to recognize
accomplishments in all aspects of flight
- To award scholarships to young people seeking experiences and
careers in aviation
- To create and foster a spirit of camaraderie among pilots
through recognition and social programs
|
| Silver Wings has over 2,000 active members throughout the world
- over half belong to active chapters in 17 cities in the United
States. |
| Membership covers the spectrum from active fliers to those who
retired from aviation years ago. All phases of aviation are
represented: airlines, military aviation, general aviation. Our
membership includes pilots who are Aviation Hall of Fame laureates,
women members of the famous Ninety-Nines and those who were members
of the WASP during World War II. |
| You will enjoy being a Silver Wings member…meeting old friends,
making new friends - all speaking the same language of flight and
experiencing the great adventure of flight itself. |
| Silver Wings recently concluded a two-year program to place
aviation-related books and materials in 150 libraries in small
towns. We currently provide annual aviation scholarships to selected
boys in the Boy Scouts of America and girls in the Girl Scouts of
the USA. |
| Silver Wings championed the naming of the new Flight Terminal at
Denver International Airport the "Captain Elrey B. Jeppsen Flight
Terminal." Elrey Jeppsen was a long-time Silver Wings member and
aviation pioneer. We also sponsored the creation of an extensive
Jeppsen exhibit at Boeing Field Museum of Flight in Seattle,
Washington and we arranged for the museum to receive and display
Captain "Jepp's" collection of professional memorabilia. |
| In a salute to early airmail pilots, "Those daring young men in
their flying machines," Silver Wings stages commemorative flights
every ten years that cover all segments of early airmail flight
routes in the continental United States, coast-to-coast. Silver
Wings members fly their own aircraft on connecting segments
eastbound and west-bound carrying specifically stamped letters and
messages of greeting between U.S. Postmasters. |
| Silver Wings makes special efforts to recognize the aviation
accomplishments of all pilots, past and present. Come join us and
experience great fellowship; experience the feeling of belonging to
a primary flight organization where you can share companionship with
fellow pilots and participate in what flying is all about. Be there
when the hangar door opens! Come fly with
us! |
